The engagement word is given before family elders, then the wedding invitation is placed before Jagannath at the family's temple of choice before any guest receives one. We sometimes cover this for families who want it documented.
Mangan
Seven married women apply turmeric paste to the bride and groom separately, at their respective homes. We split our team here — one photographer with each side.
Barajatri
The groom's procession travels to the venue with drums and conch shells. The bride's family greets them at the gate with arati and a coconut-water foot wash.
Hatha Ganthi & Saptapadi
The couple's hands are tied with mango leaves, then they take seven steps together around the sacred fire, each step over a small mound of rice.
Sindoor Daan & Kaudi Khela
Vermilion is applied, marking the bride's new status, followed by the playful shell-and-coin game between the couple in front of both families.
Bidaai
The bride leaves her childhood home. We keep our distance here more than anywhere else in the day — this moment doesn't need direction.
Chauthi
The couple's first visit back to the bride's family home. We often deliver the same-week reel in time for this gathering.
